Class meeting tomorrow, Oct 6, 6-8 pm.

[NOTE: This message was sent to everyone by e-mail. It is posted here for reference]

This message is to provide a "heads-up" about our meeting on Monday. We will commence working with Kansai University Students on the collaborative video project. Details are provided on our class web site. Review ALL links provided:

http://ltec642.blogspot.jp/p/cvp.html

  • Sign-in to BBC early, starting at 5:30, with your headset to do an audio check.
  • Our Kansai students will join us as a group from the classroom/lab where we meet for class.
  • Use a headset since there will be background noise.
  • Following a brief overview, we will break into Google HANGOUT sessions by teams.
  • We will have breakout rooms (in BBC) so that each team can meet briefly. One Hawaii member will initiate the  Hangout call.
  • Many Kansai students cannot join us since it 1:00 PM on Tuesday and have classes to attend. Some work and or have classes on another campus.
  • We will identify the students present at this session and have them introduce themselves briefly.
  • Some of our students are just learning how to use Google+ and Hangout.
  • They practiced with their classmates last week during class.
  • They will be talking individually or in pairs, without a headset.
  • We need to minimize bandwidth use as we attempt to hold six simultaneous hangouts.
  • We are sharing computers since not all students bring laptops to campus.
  • During the hangout, mute your microphone when not speaking.
  • Your patience will be much appreciated.

When connection is established with your team members:
- Introduce yourself.
- Speak slowly so that the Japanese students can follow and understand what you say.
- Use the chat window to type in your name or other difficult words and phrases.
- Discuss some possible topics for your video.
- Establish a communication plan.
- Review the due dates for the project.
- Ask Kansai students to share any information with their team members.
- Keep the meeting short, about 30 minutes at most.

By next week (Oct 14), complete a shared Google document that includes your team name, members, group's timeline and communication plan. Post the link to your document on the Google+ Kansai-Hawaii Collaborative Video Project 2014 community. [Note: Date correction]

Team members:
1. Desiree, Kaulana H, Brittany + Urano, Naru, Riho
2. Mike, Kaulana D, Liane + Yuuka, Arata, Mana
3. Coby, Christy, Shilpa + Sohei, Yuri, Hitomi
4. James, Faith, Janet + Ayuka, Kentaro (Kuse), Tomohisa (Tom)
5. Mark, Terri + Takumi, Ayumi
6. Kainoa, Kitty, Wendy + Junta, Sayumi

Also, I have shared a circle of some of the Kansai students in the CVP community. We are still trying to get all the students into Google+. Some students just joined this class. All except one are voluntarily joining this class.

Finally, introduce yourself to the Kansai students by posting a link to your video intro (from Week 1) to the Google+ CVP community. If you wish to update your video, feel free to do so.

See you online tomorrow.

Mahalo,
- Bert
