Final Project – Part 2

Critical Friends Session

During our class meeting for Week 14, you will be engaged in group sessions with your assigned TA.

Be prepared to talk about the following as related to the final project:
  • Your present or future locus of control or circle of influence.
  • What you are thinking of or planning to do for your personal learning network.
  • What will your project cover.
  • What resources will be included.
  • Items that your group members can help you with.
  • How you plan to meet the assessment criteria (rubric) for the final project.

We have assigned you to a group session to discuss and receive feedback on your final project. Meet with your group to discuss and receive both “warm” and “cool” feedback from your peers. You do not need to decide on your final project details just yet.

Before our class meeting, read the document, Critical Friends: A Process Built on Reflection:

Class Meeting
Discuss and share ideas for your final project within your assigned TA breakout room. The meeting is designed for you to discuss your ideas with everyone in your TA group and enable you to finalize your decisions.

Chester's breakout room:
Group members: Janet, Kainoa, Kaulana D, Kaulana H, Kitty, Liane

Rian's breakout room:
Group members: Brittany, Christy, Coby, Desiree, Faith, James

Dal's breakout room:
Group members: Mark, Mike, Shilpa, Terri, Wendy

The value of this session depends on your interaction with your peers. Your TA’s role is to help facilitate the discussion rather than explain the steps and content needed to complete the project.

Process
  • Each person will talk about his or her PLN. They need not be detailed. (3-4 min)
  • Group members ask questions for clarification. (1-2 min)
  • Group members then discuss the presenter’s plan and offer both “warm” and “cold” suggestions. (4-5 min)
  • The presenter then responds to the group’s comments. (2-3 min)

Preparation
  • Create a mind map to share with the group. Choose one of the mindmapping tools from the List.ly lists posted during Week 12.
  • If your mind map is posted on the Internet, be ready to copy and paste it to the chat panel during the session. It should also be opened on your desktop for reference.
  • Alternatively, you may draw out your mind map with pen and paper and take a photo of it. Your image may be uploaded to the session, or a screen capture made of it prior to the session.
  • Consult with your TA as to how to get it done. In any case, do not make the group wait for you during the session.
