Team Assignment: Pinterest

Introduction
As a researcher in the digital age, the internet is a critical and essential tool to achieve progress. Being aware and well versed in the types of tools offered through the internet is important to being able to successfully navigate the internet.

Although Pinterest.com is most often used for crafters and DIY adventurers, it can also be a helpful tool for organizational purposes. Pinterest is a content sharing service that allows users to bookmark and categorize websites. It can serve as a collection point for researchers looking for information online.

The purpose of this Pinterest assignment is to work in a group to create an academically focused Pinterest board that reflects the use and application of this emerging technology, for the purpose of teaching and learning. This use of Pinterest may not be the conventional way that most users have considered, but there is value in being able to identify unique uses for online tools.

Performance objectives or outcomes:
1. To learn about Pinterest and explore other Pinterest boards
2. Work as a team to create a board related to learning design and technology

Procedure:
Step 1:
The first step is to watch the video and read the articles. These resources will help current Pinterest users understand how the site can be used for academic methods, while introducing new users to the site.

Step 2:
Visit the site. (http://www.pinterest.com)

Step 3:
Create an account.

Step 4:
Explore the site. Find things that interest you. Look for possible ideas for creating your team’s board.

Step 5:
Create a team board. One person from the group will start a board and allow the other group members to contribute to the board. The topic of this board should be relevant to academic study and learning design and technology.

Here are some suggestions:
  • Social media
  • Educational gaming
  • Mobile devices for teaching and learning
  • Perhaps consider how to use Pinterest to find mind mapping tools and brainstorming tools.
  • Another idea might be to consider how networks can be useful for teaching and learning.
  • Or perhaps, something that is teaching related like art collaboration, sharing content, or educational strategies
You are not limited to these ideas, these are just suggestions. The requirement is that your board should be academically relevant to the educational technology realm.

Step 6:
Add pins to your board. In this step, you will pin sites to your board. The pins must be related to your chosen topic. Each group member must contribute at least two pins. One pin will be from a website the member found on his or her own, while the second pin should be repined from another user’s board. Each member should be sure to label the pin as his or her contribution in the description.

Step 7:
Post a link to your board in the Facebook SM4Ed community.

Step 8:
Each person in the group must leave a comment on a different group’s board. Links to each team’s board can be located in the Google+ community. So, find a team, look over the pins they have found and leave a comment on the board.

Deliverable (multimedia object or report)
The deliverable for this project will be a completed Pinterest board that focuses on a specific topic related to educational technology.
